Lower Your Energy Use

Did you know that up to 75% of the energy consumption by home electronics happens when they are turned off? This ‘vampire power’ accounts for something like 5% – 10% of your total residential energy usage.

In fact, according to the Department of Energy, on average a staggering 20% – 30% of a typical home’s energy usage is wasted. The culprits? Poor insulation, leaky doors and windows, inefficient ductwork, and yes, your home electronics.

On this topic, is your home or apartment drafty in the winter and stifling in the summer? Would you prefer to use EnergyStar certified appliances? Are you tired of paying for heat that just leaks out of your home?

Let RBG help you enjoy all the benefits of an energy efficient home – lower energy bills, increased comfort, and reduced maintenance costs over time. In addition, investing in energy efficient improvements to your home, condo or apartment can improve your property value.

The first step? A Home Energy Audit.

Save Money on Energy Bills

You may not be able to control the cost of energy, but through a process called weatherization you can control how much of it you use. Weatherizing your home involves (among other things):

  • Insulating and sealing your building envelope
  • Installing energy-efficient appliances, furnaces and water heaters, and
  • Upgrading to smart thermostats and LED bulbs.

Income-eligible homeowners and renters can have up to 100% of the cost to weatherize their homes and replace inefficient equipment covered through the NHSaves program.

NHSaves trusts RBG to weatherize your home – reach out so we can have a conversation around setting up a Home Energy Audit, what this entails, and how we can help you secure funding sources for the project.

Home Energy Audits

The first step in making your home energy efficient is finding out where it might be inefficient, so we know what needs improving or fixing. As an independent, 3rd-party NHSaves partner, RBG will conduct a comprehensive Energy Audit of your home, condo or apartment.

Our experienced professionals are certified by the non-profit Building Performance Institute as Building Energy Auditors and Quality Control Inspectors, which means you get expert assessments based off of rigorous industry standards.

RBG will:

  • Collect quantitative energy usage data from past utility bills
  • Gather qualitative information from you on which rooms and areas feel too hot, cold, drafty, or attract condensation
  • Check your insulation using infrared / thermal cameras to find any gaps or areas where insulation has settled and is underperforming
  • Assess your appliances, lighting and water usage
  • Conduct a “blower door test” to identify any hidden leaks
  • Confirm that none of your gas-burning appliances (furnace, water heater, stove) are leaking carbon monoxide into the house
  • Test for duct leakage

Once the audit is completed, RBG will prepare a detailed report that provides your home’s Energy Score and a list of recommended, prioritized fixes. We even identify any local, state or rebates or incentives you can tap into in order to help fund the improvements.

Depending on your eligibility, up to 100% of the costs to weatherize your home can be covered by the NHSaves program. Reach out to us to learn more and discuss your needs.
